The department congratulates Professor Roy Wollman on his promotion to the rank of full professor.

The rank of Full Professor is the highest rank that a professor can achieve (other than a named or administrative position) and is conferred upon sustained and distinguished track record of scholarly achievement within one’s university and academic discipline. 

Wolman joined the department’s Biochemistry Division as an associate professor in 2016 and he holds a joint faculty position in our department and in the Department of Integrative Biology & Physiology.  The Wollman group develops spatial transcriptomics technologies and utilize them to understand the spatial organizational principles of tissues and organs.  

Wolman received a B.Sc. in Biology and Statistics and Operations Research magna cum laude from Tel-Aviv University, Israel in 2003. As a graduate student at the University of California, Davis, he worked with physicist Alex Mogilner, a pioneer of quantitative biology, on several fundamental problems related to mitosis, and he received his Ph.D. in Cell and Developmental Biology in 2008. In 2008 Wolman joined Prof. Tobias Meyer’s group as an NIH and NSF postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Chemical and Systems Biology at Stanford University. There he discovered a mechanism of coordinated oscillation in cortical actin and calcium key to secretion of defensive chemical by immune cells.
